1. Unfulfilled potential

By Hugh Wright - stayed here from 1st March 2006 to 31st July 2010

This was a beautiful first floor Victorian conversion that had some incredible features - soaring ceilings, original cornicing, lighting roses, Juliet balconies - but which sadly had been fitted out cheaply and was blighted by small (and not so small) repairs that never quite got fixed. Loose windows, flaking paint and a leaking bathroom ceiling were ignored for ages then 'repaired' so cheaply and poorly as to quickly reoccur. The size and location of the flat made it worth having, but the repair issues meant that I stayed there in spite, not because, of the landlord. NB: for much of the tenancy the flat was managed by an agent who was absolutely lovely to deal with but who struggled to get any co-operation or sense from the landlord who loved overseas.
